At Bridge Africa Research Organisation (BARO), we began our journey with a humble “Baking and Snack Making” course, serving as an accessible entry point into entrepreneurship for many of our learners. It was practical, hands-on, and effective – but something was missing. As we progressed, it became clear that the products our students were creating – mandazi, cookies, banana cake, and alot more – were the same ones offered by virtually every roadside vendor, small bakery, or school kiosk. There was passion, yes – but where was the distinction?
So we pivoted. We reimagined our curriculum to help our students rise above the ordinary and infuse their creations with artistry, personality, and flair. That’s how the “Culinary Arts Course” was born – not just as an upgrade, but as a transformation. We still teach the fundamentals of baking and snack preparation, but we also dive deep into food artistry. Our students now learn how to design vibrant cupcake bouquets, assemble visually captivating grazing boards, and elevate simple dishes into Instagram-worthy masterpieces. From decorative techniques and plating styles to flavor fusion and presentation aesthetics, every module is geared toward making their work not just delicious – but memorable.
